2000
Seeds of change
In the year 2000, a group of passionate and idealistic graduates from United World College (UWC) Atlantic in Wales organised a groundbreaking millennium event at London’s Royal Festival Hall. They gathered influential figures, including Nobel Prize winners and even the Dalai Lama by video, to discuss pressing global issues.
2002
Defying Convention
The impact of their event caught the attention of the United Nations World Summit, earning them a unique invitation to organise a side-summit to the upcoming World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2003. However, these visionary young Impact Makers chose to reject the traditional workshop format and venue and co-created a people’s summit in Soweto, where they collaborated with local activists who had turned a neglected wasteland into the inspiring Soweto Mountain of Hope (‘SoMoHo’), showcasing the power of community-driven change
2005
The first Impact Hub opens its doors
In 2005, with the experiences of the millennium event and SoMoHo still fresh in their minds and hearts, the group saw a growing need for a physical space where like-minded individuals could come together to connect and collaborate. Fuelled by their vision, they founded the first Impact Hub transforming a run-down London loft. Named ‘The Hub’ initially, this space became the nurturing ground for community-building, sustainable practices, and the perfect blend between activist passion and entrepreneurial ingenuity. The first habitat for social innovators was born.

Youth Connekt Africa
Participation in the 4th edition of Youth Connekt Africa Summit’21 Ghana, YouthConnekt Africa is an annual summit that brings together young people from across Africa to discuss and accelerate youth empowerment efforts. The platform aims to expand its network and replicate its model in several African countries. This year’s edition, held in partnership with UNDP, focused on positioning African youth to take advantage of the opportunities of the AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Zone) and promote regional integration.
2021 Novembro
A touch of Bambara
With the aim of implementing the creation of the idealized center and acquiring more knowledge for the management of a Center for Impact and Support for Sustainable Entrepreneurship, the Impact Hub Candidate Bissau team, previously known as nô Morança, traveled to Bamako for an internship one-week intensive. This experience is part of the team’s integration into the global network, thus allowing them to absorb an experience closer to the reality of Guinea-Bissau and gain insight into the inner workings of an Impact Hub.
2022 Abril
The first seed
Just like a seed planted today to be harvested tomorrow, our first program, Semente Verde (Green Seed), represents the vision and solution that addresses the root of our problem. It aims to cultivate more conscious, resilient and responsible entrepreneurs, thus contributing to fairer development through socioeconomic entrepreneurship. This program is an initiative of Impact Hub Candidato Bissau, in partnership with Fundação Mava and UNDP Guinea-Bissau, with the aim of promoting the development of entrepreneurship in the country.

Africa and Middle East Gathering
Our first participation in the regional meeting that brought together more than 20 representatives from Impact Centers in Africa and the Middle East, as well as members of the Impact Center Global Network team, in Kigali. In addition to the personal connection on a deeper level, the event represented an excellent opportunity to share new knowledge, practices and experiences related to the Circular Economy. It also made it possible to identify potential approaches and opportunities for collective action.
2022 Dezembro
Impact Hub Bissau
After two years as Nô Morança and one as Impact Hub Candidate Bissau, the team completed all stages of this challenge. By presenting their vision before the Impact Hub Global committee, the team now officially becomes Impact Hub Bissau.
2023 Junho
First Impact Hub Global Gathering
From June 5th to 8th, the Impact Hub Global Gathering 2023 took place in Ghana, marking the 10th anniversary of Impact Hub Accra and representing the first global meeting held in Africa and our first participation in a Global Gathering. This event promoted collaboration, exchange of ideas and partnerships for a sustainable future. Topics such as social entrepreneurship and sustainable innovation were discussed. We celebrate Impact Hub Accra for its role in fostering entrepreneurship and building collaborative communities over a decade. Our involvement in the event was a significant step towards a more inclusive and impactful future.

Visit to Lisbon
The Impact Hub Bissau team was in Lisbon participating in training in community management, ecosystem development and impact generation. The objective was to acquire knowledge to more effectively support the entrepreneurial community in Guinea-Bissau. During our stay, we had an incredible experience visiting Factory Lisbon, located in the Beato area, considered the future largest entrepreneurship center in Europe. This trip took our inspiration to new heights, along with our aspirations to see Guinea-Bissau shining as a star in the African entrepreneurial scene.
